Joins 11th Annual Small Business Saturday® as an American Express® Neighborhood Champion

WESTWOOD, NJ (November 16, 2020)  Celebrate Westwood has joined the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program, expanding #ShopTheHub promotions as part of Small Business Saturday, which takes place on November 28 and all holiday-season long. Created by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday highlights the impact small businesses have on communities across the country.

Celebrate Westwood kicked-off its Neighborhood Champion promotions on November 14th with its first Shop The Hub event featuring 16 local fashion and home retailers.  Participating retailers offered in-store promotions and discounts designed to encourage residents to start shopping early, small and local.  The event was followed by a campaign to remind patrons that they can also shop local online.  Next up, Westwood 12 Days, a reminder that the best gifts are local, Small Business Saturday swag giveaways, a Spend Local gift-card program, a dine outdoors promotion, and sale of the community cookbook Stir-Crazy: A Collection of Westwood Cuisine.

“Celebrate Westwood is excited to help support our local businesses as a Neighborhood Champion,” organizers said.  “Local businesses offer unique shopping experiences and make our downtown inviting and strong. Supporting local small businesses now is convenient and safe, especially since so many of our shops have adopted online ordering, curbside pick-up and even delivery when needed.”

2020 marks the 11th Annual Small Business Saturday.  Since it started consumers have reported spending an estimated $120 billion across all Small Business Saturdays combined. 1 That’s $120 billion toward helping communities thrive, spent over just ten days alone.

In order to encourage shoppers to Shop Small® this November 28, Celebrate Westwood is participating in the American Express® Neighborhood Champion Program to spotlight small businesses and the impact they have on communities. According to the 2019 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, 97% of consumers who shopped on Small Business Saturday agree that small businesses are essential to their community and 95% reported the day makes them want to shop or eat at small, independently-owned businesses all year long, not just during the holiday season2.

Formed in 2018 to organize Westwood’s 125th Anniversary Year festivities, Celebrate Westwood has since been tasked with creating small moment events that allow safe gathering under pandemic protocols. Arts on the Avenues, Broadway Sings America, Chalk the Park, Trek-or-Treat, holiday decorating contests and more were all made possible with funding from resident donations, a grant from Westwood For All Ages and the support of the Westwood Chamber of Commerce as well as the Borough governing body and departments including the Westwood Recreation Department and The Westwood Public Library.  This is Celebrate Westwood’s first year as an American Express Neighborhood Champion.  Merchants and consumers can learn more about Shop Small, Small Business Saturday and how to get involved by visiting

From November 14th until December 19th, Celebrate Westwood will be organizing and highlighting local activities and events that will include:

  • #ShopTheHub – November 14th - an event hosted by 16 Westwood retail shops offering one-day-only sales, specials, and promotions. The day features Arts on the Avenues jazz guitarist Sam Bernhardt midday near the Post Office, and in-store events at Beyond the Barre, Donna Moda, Ginger N Cream, Ginger Kids, Hartly, Hunt & Orchard, LaViano, Ludovica, Market House, Mirror Mirror, Papillon Bambino, Society Femme, Society Men, The Gem Mine, Threads, and more, with a special opportunity to learn about one of Westwood's newest retail shops, Urbann Touch!

  • Westwood Welcomes Winter  - Saturday, December 5 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm - stretching from Veterans' Park to Five Corners with small musical ensembles, performances, light displays, and more. The newly created event will allow residents to welcome the season with some of our most time-honored traditions including the lighting of the Westwood Christmas Tree and a special socially distanced visit from Santa Claus.

  • Westwood Winter Wonderland continues on Saturdays December 12 and 19 when Celebrate Westwood will carry on the festivities with additional musical entertainment and unique holiday activities, all with the intent of celebrating the season with our outstanding community of neighbors, friends, and families. Throughout these December weeks, area residents can look forward to the annual menorah lighting, unique holiday lights, and art displays throughout town.

Through these mini, festival-like events of music, entertainment, lights, decorations, warm refreshments, and community cheer, Celebrate Westwood hopes to remind residents to support the entirety of the Westwood business district - retail, dining and services – while they make their holiday plans and shopping lists.  More details on all the events and promotions will be made available in the coming weeks.

Due to the public health and safety concerns of 2020, the Home for the Holidays committee sadly has had to cancel the town’s annual parade known for drawing upwards of 5000 residents of the Pascack Valley.  Celebrate Westwood looks forward to the continued support of the borough as we coordinate these small, safe gathering winter and holiday moments with various departments, small businesses, and community organizations. This 2020 kick off to the holiday season, was designed not to replace, but to enhance beloved traditions such as Home for the Holidays that are difficult to host with current gathering restrictions.

Please note, Westwood Ave will not be closed for any of the above events. Anyone interested in participating in the event as an individual, business, or organization, or those interested in assisting in the planning and execution of the events are invited to contact us at  For more details as they become available, please follow our Facebook and Instagram pages @celebratewestwood or visit
