What?

Let’s yarn bomb Westwood!

Yarn bomb [ yahrn-bom ]

Verb (used with object)

A type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fiber rather than paint or chalk. It is a low risk initiative that will not damage property and is removable (and lasts longer than chalk). Watch this video!

Why?

Yarn bombing Westwood will reclaim and beautify forgotten, unattractive, overlooked outdoor spaces while simultaneously sparking joy, activating communal pride and inspiring multiple generations to get involved in our hometown and/or make something beautiful themselves.  Adding contrasting soft fuzzy textures to unexpected locations will do the same for Westwood residents - give us the warm and fuzzies that will ultimately form human connection by all those encountering these delightful surprises (something we could all benefit from in this post-COVID climate).

Who?

Our Westwood Yarn Bomb Squad needs you!  We’re inviting everyone to volunteer  in our  multi-generational effort  to make this small but mighty dose of beautification to Westwood possible (e.g., library groups, church groups, senior citizens, Girl/Boy Scouts, community leaders,, volunteer firefighters, nurses, school administrators, ndividual citizens, YOU!). 

 

When?

Join other volunteers Tuesdays in May @ 7pm at the Westwood Free Public Library.

Or work on your pieces at home and drop them off at the Westwood Free Public Library Circulation Desk by 6/1.
