THURSDAY, AUGUST 26, 3:00 - 8:00 PM

THE KEYS TO OUR AMERICAN DREAM:

A COMMUNITY ART PROJECT

Add your voice to the conversation about who we are and what is important to us. Join us to discover what a key can open for you. Bring your family and friends to Veterans’ Memorial Park near the Public Library from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 26 to choose a key and explore what your key can open or start or do! Keys and art supplies are all provided at this thought-provoking fun event!

The key idea project connects people through a simple but powerful community art project using keys to help us identify our wishes and dreams while also demonstrating that we are more alike than different. Founded in 2014 by Westwood native Lenore Lyons, an art educator, this 501 (C) 3 project has to date been enjoyed by 7,000 participants from toddlers to centenarians, who answer the question, “What does your key open or start or do?” Lyons is now embarked on her second tour to bring the project to people all over the country. Her first tour, in 2020, was cut short by the pandemic. Exhibits of these profound, funny, and heartwarming expressions have been mounted at various locations including the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum.  For more information go to www.thekeyidea.org.
